How Does a Virtual Assistant Work?
You hire a Virtual Assistant (VA) of your choice via a project or on an on going basis. You
sign a contract which can detail the scope of work, the fees, the start and stop dates, or any
other agreed upon particulars.
Your VA works from their own office. Work commences and is performed as per the
contract, and your VA works diligently and professionally towards your goal of completion.
Your VA invoices you according to your contract details. Your VA may have the ability to
accept checks and credit cards as methods of payment.
Why would I hire a VA vs. In-House help?
When you hire an in-house assistant for instance, you are hiring one person to tend to all of
your office needs. You pay that person either a salary or by the hour for them to juggle
several of your tasks at one time. That person will be proficient in some of the tasks, but not
all. That person will have to put tasks on hold to complete others. That person will need
time to learn new tasks which puts your business on hold.
You pay that person for downtime, learning curves, vacation time, sick leave, lunch and
break time, not to mention your overhead costs for insurance, taxes, office space, and
equipment, etc. All of this costing you approximately 2 to 2.5 times their hourly wage.
When you hire a VA, you are hiring someone who has the experience necessary to complete
your task in a timely and professional manner. You only pay for the time that they are
actually working on your project. You are made aware of the time that your VA plans on
beginning your project. Your VA has a tremendous amount of support from other
experienced VA's at their fingertips.
So when you think of paying an in-house assistant $15.00 an hour (for example) and a VA
$30.00 an hour (for example), in reality you are paying your in-house assistant about the
same, if not more per hour for in some cases less than professional results.

What is a Virtual Assistant?
A Virtual Assistant (aka a VA) is an individual who independently owns their own business
offering services of their expertise to other individuals, companies, and organizations for a
fee, where the assistance is performed via phone, fax and the Internet.
There is a VA community which houses a multitude of Virtual Assistants with a variety of
skills ranging from administration to marketing plans to website design, etc. This
community gives your VA(s) strength by offering resources and information from other
experienced Virtual Assistants in their field.
Can I hire more than one VA at a time?
Absolutely! We encourage you to hire the expert VA’s needed for your specific tasks. We
can even refer you to the appropriate VA’s you need.
