You hear a lot of hype lately about erasing your “carbon footprint”.  For the conscientious
minded individuals and business owners who care about the health of our earth for future
generations, this has become a leading factor on how we conduct our personal and business
activities today.

We are aware of the fact that every time we drive, fly, run appliances and machinery, heat, cool
and light our homes and offices, etc., we emit carbon dioxide, trapping heat into the
atmosphere, ultimately causing climate changes or what is called “Global Warming”.

We are now finding ourselves looking for carbon offsets to compensate our impact on the
earth’s climate.  We are looking at all aspects and weighing out how much it costs in
emissions to make or create something and how much it costs to use it against alternate
options.

Read any article regarding “going green”, and you will see some of the leading causes for
emissions are fuel usage and material waste (such as paper).  National Geographic wrote a
book called True Green at Work 100 ways you can make the environment your business,
spelling out the statistics saying “10,000 sheets of letter paper, as much paper as is
produced from pulping a full grown tree being used for every U.S. Worker each year, much
from native forests and is chlorine-bleached, a process that produces toxic dioxins”.  That is
about 12 million tons of paper each year in the U.S.!

As for fuel, not only fuel costs in pulping the paper and transporting it.  What about fuel costs
on our highways for employees?  Again according to National Geographic, “The Texas
Transportation Institute estimates that U.S. Drivers waste nearly 6 billion gallons of fuel each
year due to traffic congestion during peak am/pm commute times, this causing nearly 60
million tons of greenhouse gases being emitted annually to the atmosphere along with
noxious pollutions such as carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, and particulates”.

Google the word “Carbon Footprint” and sites will come up with Carbon footprint Calculators
where you can see how your business fares and find suggestions on how to lesson your
carbon footprint.

How can your business lessen it's carbon footprint you ask?

You can begin by hiring a Virtual Assistant!  Virtual Assistants work from a remote office,
usually their home office.  This eliminating a large amount of your contribution of emitting
greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, and fuel usage.

Virtual Assistants do most of your work digitally and over the Internet.  Virtual Assistants try to
touch very little paper if any.  Take for instance your filing system, most filing systems can
become digital files and stored on your computer and on backup systems.  This eliminating
the need for paper waste, large file cabinets and archive storage units.

Virtual Assistants can help your business go "GREEN"!
